Am i allergic to Chocolate?! ?

Hi there,

I think I may be allergic to chocolate! Sorry guys, this is a bit gross - but about half hour after I eat it lately, I get really gassy and have to get to the loo quickly and I get diarrhoea! Does anyone experience this or know what it may mean?

If I remember correctly Chocolate can have a laxative effect if eaten in enough quantity, but maybe if you are only eating a small amount you might be sensitive to it.

YES, you may very well be allergic to Chocolate.

You really should get checked, (Especially if you had breathing problems, as this can get worse and worse with time, and/or become life threatening.

The "loose stomach" symptoms can very well be the Chocolate, but can also be the Milk in the Chocolate.

IF IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO KNOW IF YOU ALSO HAD TROUBLE BREATHING!

The normal reaction to Chocolate is to have a "Binding Effect" on the stomach, and if a "non-allergic" person eats a lot of it they will get VERY HARD in their stomach.

If this was a "one time" reaction, it may have been something else.

If it happens time and again, then you should see a doctor and tell Him/Her of your symptoms.

I get that too when I only eat like a square of chocolate. I also got asthma as wel from eating chocolate (that's what made the doctors say that I was allergic). But i'm allergic to the cocoa, because I can still have milk and other dairy products.
