Am i allowed to drive around my neighborhood for practice as long as i am supervised by a parent?

i am 14 and only 4 month till i can get my permit i want to know if i can do some practice driving around my neighborhood with my mom so i will be ready when i take my drivers test. what is the worste that could happen.(my neighborhood is big and all of the cars are usually parked in the driveway so the roads are clear. will i get in trouble. can someone call the cops??

The learner's permit is what allows you to legally be able to drive on the street while supervised.  (If your family owned lots of land, you can drive on this private land without a permit/license.)  The learner's permit test is usually just a "written" test on your knowledge of the state's driver's handbook.

    Most states require junior operators (those under age 18) to have a certain number of hours of on-the-road training while under a learner's permit, and often also to have taken a driver's education course, before you can go to take the driver's test (on-the-road test).

    Both you and your mother could be cited by local police (driving without a license), and if your mother's auto insurance company found out they'd likely not cover any claims if there was an accident (your fault or not).

    Wait the 4 months until you get your permit.  Study the state's driver's handbook.  Sit with licensed drivers and watch how to properly operate the vehicle.


  2. You aren't supposed to, but some people do it. Can you go to a big, empty parking lot and practice? The worst that could happen is that you could hit and kill someone, so consider that...
