  1. Well you should probably start planning now.  Get part time jobs over the school year, save up a bit.

It's not crazy or naive.  It's actually a great life experience.  Do it while you can!!!

Start budgetting now.  Look around for hostels prices, how much trains cost.  passport prices, food estimates etc.

Also check out contiki.com  I'm pretty sure they'd allow you to join one of their tours.  They have a GREAT price. their tours are for ages 18 - 30 so lots of young people to hang out with.  They have some amazing tours.  Give them a look!  The have some long ones too, 29 days around europe.

Good luck!  feel free to contact me through my profile for any more help or questions.

  2. Well with the way the dollar isn't as valued, it's going to cost a lot more then it used to. But what country do you live in? I live in the U.S and it's going to cost more to go and backpack around Europe then if I lived in Italy.

Anyway, you can also go on a tour, it pays for hotel fees and food usually. That way you save money, but the problem with that is you have to travel with the tour.

But, for hotel fees, food, and transportation traveling is never cheap. It really depends on what currency you're using, if it's the dollar it's going to cost more then if you're using the Euro. So you should add where you live, then people can give a better answer.

Anyway, it sounds like fun and I hope you can go! Enjoy it! =D

  3. it's not crazy my friends and i are going next summer, too. and we're also 17 going on 18.. it will be our graduation trip also.  i can't tell you exactly, our parents are the ones doing the research since they're paying hah but i gotta tell you it IS expensive.

for starters.. food is about 15 euros each meal.

there's no such thing as a cheap and good hotel. you should probably go to "ibis" hotels since they're recognized worldwide and assured to provide you a cheap and comfortable stay.

    GOOD LUCK :)
