I'm a student attending a community college and I was receiving fafsa. winter semester I was on dismissal for my grades, I switched to a different school in spring and received a 2.0. will i still be eligible for my fafsa this year? if it helps i was eligible for the board of gov. fee waiver. Also, i want to remain at my new school for fall but still attend some classes at my old school now that i am off of dismissal. does fafsa count all the units i am taking at all schools I am taking them or will they only count the units at one school?

  1. FAFSA has nothing to do with it.  You fill out the FAFSA form, but it's only a collection of data that determines if you're eligible for certain federal financial aid programs, and then your school decides about whether or not you get aid from certain programs. There's no such thing as "receiving FAFSA"- but you may have been receiving aid from certain programs such as Pell Grants, Perkins Loans, Stafford Loans, FSEOG, state grants, etc.

Each school is responsible for determining whether or not you meet the academic requirements to get financial aid.  Talk to the school that you plan to attend to see if you are still eligible.  In fact, if you're not eligible any more, you usually get a notice in the mail telling you so, but you should check with the financial aid office just to be sure.

You can only receive federal financial aid from one school.

  2. If the second school accepted you, you may continue to go to that school and get financial aid. The first school may require you to submitt an appeal. Financial aid does look at all schools you have attended within the past five years, they look at grades and the credits count in your "timeframe." Timeframe is the amount of credits you need to earn your degree, and you cannot go over that amount. You may only get financial aid at one school at a time, you cannot get it at both at the same time.
