Hi i am starting college on Monday to do an HNC in Social Care at Reid Kerr College in Paisley. I think its classes as full time even although it is only on for one year and it is a Tuesday, full day. I currently work 3 days per week earning £9000 over the year plus i also get working and child tax creits. I was told that my cours woul be paid for me cos i am a low earner who isin receipt of tax credits. I have a son and a wife and im the only one who works. Can anyone tell me if this is right cos i dont have a clue, i have never been asked to pay the fees but at the same time i have not shown them my proof of income. Monday is my induction from 1pm to 4pm. I dont know what this consists of as i have never been to college before. Am i entitled to any type of award or bursary to buy books, travelling expenses etc. Do i qualify for anything. I have checked the internet but here are so many things i am confused. Any help would be appreciated.

  1. There are no course fees in Scotland.

Induction is when you will be given your timetableand library cards etc etc, basically administration. Every one will be new and in the same situation so don't worry.

There are no grants or bursaries any more but you should check your entitlement to a Student Loan which is what has replaced student grants. The college office will give you all the info on Monday.

Well done on being accepted and good luck.

    EDIT

I think, with respect, you should ignore the answer above mine. The answerer clearly does not understand the Scottish, or even the UK situation.

  2. Sorry if I cant help specifically because my advice is to seek out the financial aid office at your school to talk to a financial aid counselor. They will be able to help see what you qualify for and what you might be able to get. Bring your id- student and personal- and your proof of income to help clarify your position.
