I have a 94 altima thats as tough as they go, but i need to know if i'm getting good gas mileage. Almost all of my driving is on the highway and i estimate that i can get about 330-340 on a tank if i drive it to empty. Is this good?

  1. How many gallons are in the tank?  You can't figure the miles per gallon without knowing how many gallons you used.  This is simple math.

  2. A Smaller engine(uses less gas) has a smaller gas tank, a larger engine(uses more gas) has a larger tank.  each tank(big or small) should get you about 350 miles.  Since you have a 94 Altima(14yrs old) you're getting a very good gas mileage.  I have 2003 Lancer, 4cyl and I can only get 350mile per tank.  only the Civics and Corollas get better gas mileage, 500miles.

  3. Unfortunately, it seems as if you are not.

The 94 altima gets 24 city/ 30 highway for the  manual and 21/29 for the auto. The tank is 15.9 gallons. If you drove all city miles on the auto, you would get 333.9 miles of driving. If you drove all highway in the auto you should get 461.1 miles out of a tank.

I would suggest modifying how you drive. Try to accelerate smoothly and brake/accelerate as little as possible.

try settying your car on cruise control on the highway and seeing how many mpg's you get. If it is around 27-29 I would reccomend a few things:

    1. Does your oil need to be changed? It can severely effects gas milage. My lexus RX300 gets 21.4 mpg after an oil change and 19.8 before it needs one.

    2. If that is not the case check your tire pressure.

    3. If you have severe loss in mpg, get the car looked at, there may be a problem.

  4. It depends on the size of your tank.

  5. ill guess that you have a 10-12 gallon tank, yes you get decent millage i get about the same or a little more some times in a 90 honda civic with a led foot.

  6. figure it out so it makes sense...  fill it, drive and record the mileage (set your trip odometer to zero when you fill it) and then next time you fill it:

Mile per gallon = miles (off trip odometer) divided by gallons at that next fillup...    fill up when you get close to empty, but it doesn't have to be empty -1/4 tank will do for the math...

then come back and ask...  tank size doesn't necessarily tell us either - it MAY or MAY NOT BE close, but more accurate if you do the above...  Keep in mind, when you  are CLOSE to empty on the gauge, you might really have a lot of gas left... so don't let people tell you your mileage based on tank size... unless you TRULY run out of gas....

  7. how big is the tank? divide the gallons that you fill into your tank by the amount of miles you drove. If it's about 25 (which it sounds like it is) you are getting decent gas milage
