hi everyone, I'm 34 weeks and 1 day pregnant, i know it seems really early to be in labour,

but the last few days ive had alot of pressure almost like my waters are going to break, i just blamed this on the fact my baby might be in a awkward position, but today ive had it so many times, i have a bad lower back pain, and at the bottom of my tummy it feels like period pains, and the side and top of my tummy feels weird i cant explain it, it just dosent feel right, also the baby is still moving alot but no where near the amount she normally does,

and the last few days ive had quite alot of discharge (sorry) but i know its not an infection,

this is my second child but i never experienced this with my first, the only symptoms i got were contractions lol

thanks in advance for your answers

  1. I would call your doctor. It doesn't sound like labor but you need to make sure everything is good with the baby

  2. You should contact your doctor right way and describe all the symptoms to the nurse.  They will let you know what you should do.  Good luck.

  3. Labor could be right around the corner, but if you would feel better just go to the doctor or hospital to get checked out.  That is what I would have done in your situtation.  The most they can do is tell you that it is a false alarm and send you home.  Everyone told me including my doctor that I needed to wait until my contractions were consistent.  Well, i never had consistent contractions even when I was pushing.  I went to the hospital because I had a horrible pressure and some contractions and when I got there I was in labor and dilated 6cm.

  4. It sounds to me like the baby "dropped," or moved down in the birth canal to prepare for birth.  This can happen anytime, but is usually between 2 and 4 weeks before delivery.  Since the baby becomes smooshed down there, with the head very low, it may not be moving as much.  There's also just not as much room in there for her as there was before!

I'd probably give it a couple of hours, and if you still feel concerned, or you start to feel contractions, give the doc a call.  That's what they're there for, so don't feel bad calling them even if it's not labor.

    Good luck!

  5. Go In Right Away!  Even if it turns out to be nothing, it's better to be safe than sorry!

True vs. False Labor (according to the chart in my Pregnancy and Childbirth Guide Version 2.1)

    Activity:

Walking---in true labor it increases the strength of the contraction and decreases the rest time between contractions.  It does the opposite for false labor.

Strength---true labor contractions will get stronger (more painful) with time, in false labor the contraction pain doesn't increase.

Timing, Frequency and Duration---in true labor contractions occur at regular time periods, the time from beginning to end of contraction increases with time.  In false labor the contractions occur irregularly and the duration does not increase over time.

Location of pain---In true labor, begins in lower back and spreads to lower abdomen and sometimes to legs.  In false labor it stays in the lower abdomen.

Cervix---in true labor it dialates(opens) and effaces(thins out, shortens).  In false labor the cervix will change positions to be in line with the v****a (from its previous posterior position) and start a small amount of dialation and effacement to get you ready for the real thing.

Other signs---in true labor: bloody show or mucous tinged with blood occurs as cervix dialates and effaces.  In false labor there will not be bloody show unless a vaginal exam was recently performed.

Waters---in true labor, rupture (break) or leak occurs in only 15% of labors.  In false labor they don't break or leak.

  6. Wow, you sound a lot like me. I'm 34 weeks 4 days pregnant and I've also been feeling a lot of pressure in my lower stomach area. I don't feel it all the time just occasionally but I think it's the way the baby is positioning itself and since they are pretty big by now they don't have much room to move around anymore.  My baby is in head down position and I also think that may be another reason for the pressure. The other day I was feeling false labor contractions - my belly was tightening up and my back started hurting me really bad but after I started walking around it went away. I told my midwife about this and she said it's normal as long as they go away and aren't consistent. I've been feeling the period-like pain lately too  but they also go away and don't happen all the time. My baby has actually been moving around a lot more than he usually does but as long as she hasn't stopped moving completely or dramatically I wouldn't worry about it. I've noticed an increase in my discharge too and my midwife says it's also normal as long as it doesn't smell or have blood in it. I think you are more than likely experiencing false labor contractions aka Braxton Hicks - it's your body's way of preparing for the actual thing.

  7. Yes...drink a ton of water like answerer number one said.

You could be dehydrated. I got dehydrated at 16 weeks and went into pre-term labor.

Obviously you are getting close to delivery because you are 34 weeks, but until something major happens, like your water breaking, I think labor is preventable. If you are still uncomfortable I would get in to see the doctor. They may hook you up to fluids and check your cervix.

You don't want to go into labor yet...it's still too early and there could be many problems. So do your best to take care of yourself and protect your baby.

    Good luck.

  8. if something doesnt feel right you should definatly go to the er so that you can get put on a monitor to see if you are having contractions because at 34wks the babies lungs are not yet fully developed and you could have problems if you go early enough they may be able to stop or slow labor and inject you with a steroid that will help  your babies lungs mature. even if this isnt labor it may be your bodies way of saying something isnt right. its definatly better to be safe in this situation. if you dont have anyone to drive you yet take it easy and stay off your feet because chances are if you are contracting you would be put on bed rest anyways. please dont take this lightly and good luck

  9. if in doubt get checked out!!!

if you feel as though you might be either call your midwife or get to teh hospital... when having kids as being a mum already ther is no room for messing around!! and at teh end of teh day if your not and you get checked out then at least you have been cautious.

  10. It could just be braxtons. Time the contractions. If they are regular and about 5 minutes apart then you need to call your midwife. If your waters break then call the midwife immediately as you are only 34 weeks.

Don't worry because if this is real labour, 34 weeks is early but perfectly viable to have a healthy baby.

Lay down, raise ur feet, relax and chill out as this can put labour off a bit.

  11. Are your contractions regular? time them and see. If they are, then this is real labour. don't go to the hospital until your contractions are about 5 minutes apart or your water breaks. In the mean time, drink a ton of water, I mean a lot! It could very well be because you are dehydrated. good luck.

  12. Well, you could be in labor. I'd go to the doc asap just to get checked out. If you're dilating, then that's a good indication that you're in labor or about to go into labor. Call your doc asap, explain the symptoms and see what he/she says and go from there. There's no used going to the ER and waiting hrs if it's nothing serious. Good luck!
