i really dont want to use chemicals and i know bordeax mixture is ok'ish organicly but i would rather not treat my vines with anything i would not eat or drink. my neighbours here in central portugal use both the above and laugh loudly at the idea of milk spray to control mildew. its definatly a problem here at the bottom of a river valley that gets a lot of fog/misty mornings. have done some research into this but would like some first hand advice from someone who has tried the milk plan.

  1. Yes but only totally

  2. I used to raise giant pumpkins and I have used milk but in the form of intravenous feeding as well as in spray form. I used it lightly once or twice a week. If it was used too heavy, we seemed to have too many bugs and and when it got very hot it just smelled like sour milk in the garden. Other than that, we never saw much of a mildew problem.

  3. Milk spray apparently works against powdery mildew, but it has to be skim milk and very dilute. Otherwise you will just be adding a nutritious brew to your plants that will make them susceptible to other fungi and bacteria.

  4. I prefer Evan Williams. It's not that expensive and my plants really seem to like it. They tend to lean over a bit but throw a little hot coffee on them and they'll perk right up.

  5. it seems okay to do that.

  6. why not try it on just a couple of vines to see if it works
