i am 5'9 158 pounds im entering high school this fall, im interested in joining the football team but im not sure what position, i run the 40 yd dash in 4.9 but im faster then that but it takes me a while to accelerate. once im fully accelelaryted i can keep up with most receivers. im not much of a big hitter person to cause fumbles but im a sure tackle i always get the person down. im also not scared of getting hurt, ive stood in the direct path of a 6'2 220 man runnig full speed. i can rush the quarterback effectivly but most times i get stuck with men stronger then me. please answer this question. and give me tips on what to do to improve at what ever position you choose.

  1. Put on some weight and try out for linebacker if you are a good tackle. If you can't put on weight then try out as a safety.

  2. You've got it all, kid.  Leave it up to the coaches, they'll tell YOU what's best for you (and them/the team).  Be sure to tell them you just wanna play!  They'll love your heart and enthusiasm.  Always be early to practice and don't goof off with the losers.  Remember, when you are a Freshman in High School and say fifty guys go out for football, only 11 will play, the others sit on the bench.  Make yourself stand out with your eagerness and work ethic.  YOU'RE A WINNER.  Play hard & rest well.

    God Bless.  Coach Mike

  3. hmm.. I would probably say safety. Because linebackers need to knock the s**t outta the running back and you may need to be just a lil bigger for a d-end. If you can run with receivers and are a sure tackler I would say safety although d-end isn't a bad choice if your good at rushing just gotta make sure you can fight off the o-line.

    hope this helped

  4. Well if your hands and ups are pretty good play safety because accelaration is not dat important unless you rush but unlikely in high school ball. you dont seem to sure about defensive end and you are not that fast so it will be hard to catch a running back especially a speed one so safety is your best bet.

I play safety work so much on calves and speed by running on the beach and resistance running. Also do lunges and squats without weights (dont stunt tour growth) and bear crawl should make you tip-top shape
