I'm 13 (well. my 12th birthday was two days ago) and i still like to hold my parents hands in public... every now and then with my dad but still quite a bit with my mum (no comments about incest etc, its not like that) this may sound weird but i don't feel right when we're out sometimes unless I'm holding one of their hands, is it habit or not.

e.g. today on the way home from the shops i held hands in between them all the way (about 20 mins) and i know that if i hadn't it wouldnt have felt right, to my main question am i normal or is there something wrong and do i need to stop?

  1. your not abnormal, i know 13 year olds that still hold their parents hands. you obviously feel awkward about it hence asking this question, why not try linking arms instead its the same security but more grown up?

  2. Nothing wrong at all.   Remember you will only ever have one mum and one dad.   They will protect you and look out for you even when you fly the nest.   Hold on to them as long as you can - there are a lot of us who are not as fortunate as you.

  3. i think you need yo start getting away and stop relying on your parents, it sounds like you lack confidence :(

  4. well... hm... i see some people do that. well i think that you'll grow out of it when you become older. and you just turned 13?? soo you'll just need some time.

  5. you might have a problem being away from them

  6. I think what it is you feel safe with them and if makes you happy

  7. Hi, I answered a similar question asked by an adult about kissing parents and I'll tell you the same thing. It sounds as if you have a lovely relationship with your parents. My 12 year old daughter still holds my hand at times and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Please don't bow down to the pressure to be "all grown up" and aloof with the people you love, you've got it right. Best wishes, Clare.

  8. You seem to be a bit attached to your parents. I think it's time to start letting go.

  9. No, do what's natural, and feels right for you. M.

  10. It sounds like you are very close to your parents there is nothing wrong with that when you feel like you are ready to stop holding your parents hands then you do that when you feel like it. Don't worry about what other people think.

  11. look up OCD

  12. kids grow up way too fast now.  you should cherish what you have with your parents.  hold their hands and be proud!  it's not very common to have such a great bond with your parents.  your question made me happy.

  13. Link your parents arms instead it will look better and you still have them with you, to keep you safe.

Dont worry about it, nothing wrong with it :D

  14. i dont think thats normal..

  15. Kiddo, I'm 14 and still have the tendency to hold my parents' hands when we're crossing the parking lot whenever we're out together. Not so much anymore, but hey, puberty and teenage changes occur at different times for everyone.

p.s. I started stopping myself from holding their hands awhile ago, and ever since, I've been holding their hands quite less often than before. Try that, might work for you.

  16. nothing wrong with holding your parents' hands.

  17. as long as your not hurting anyone

    I cant see the harm

because I know that when you grow up fully

you dont need to hold their hands anymore

When your at this stage your still a baby

and just have to grow out of it

    NOW

I m not suggesting that you give it up right now

but only as quickly you feel comfortable to

    Right ?

I would say your only as normal as you feel

If you begin to feel uncomfortable with it

then it ceases to be normal

  18. Its a security thing. I think you should do it. Who cares? You are on the verge of being too old but right now you are fine. You are still a kid. Enyoy it.

  19. I was like that when I was little, but not your age. Usually I'm ok if they are in eye sight. It seems a little awkward, but I have no ideas of how to stop. Sorry!

  20. you are twelve. none of this thirteen business. i think it's nice you still hold your parents hands. if you are still doing this when you are eighteen, or worse, twenty one, then start to panic. you're only twelve honey, don't conform to the necessity to grow up before it's time. do what makes you feel comfortable and don't stress about it.

  21. There's nothing wrong with it. Most people don't at that age, but if YOU feel comfortable with it, then why not? Whatever makes you feel right, is what you do. If you think you should be moving on, talk to your parents and try taking a walk without holding their hands. See what it feels like.

  22. normal is ones persons opinion if your OK with it its normal dont listen to any one else

  23. you're a little old for that....grow up and let go of mommy and daddy

  24. well first of all, im 14 and guess what i still hold my parents hands

sometimes i guess i feel i need to at home but when im out shopping with them or something my dad usually just holds my hand anyway and i dont mind. To me, i think because you dont feel right if your not holding one of their hands, its probably just a comfort thing but if you feel the need to question the fact that you think its ok, then maybe it is a habit. Anyway, in answers to your main question, you are perfectly normal to still do that, theres no problem with it and you shouldnt be worrying about it

I hope you feel better about it know =]

    Have fun and enjoy it

  25. Most parents would love to have a kid like you man!!!  My 12 and 13 yr old wouldn't think of holding my hand.  You do whatever you want with holding your parents hands.  Who cares what people think.  You're parents love you, and you love them.  That's all that matters dude.

    Peace.

  26. Yeah there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. People (especially kids) need some type of safety or way of feeling safe in thier life. This may be a way for you to do so. More common ways are having a item you sleep with for example.
