  1. Usually it's either an MA or a certificate, both of which require a BA first.


  2. Several TESL/TEFL programs do not require a degree   though it is advisable to have one.

    Those holding one have more chances to land a good job as opposed to those with only a high school diploma.

    CELTA, CerTESOL, for example, only require a high school diploma and being older than 18.

  3. I think you are asking if you have to have a degree to teach English as a second language.   The answer is no - in communities that offer English as a volunteer course - you may get paid nothing or very little.

    If you are asking about teaching in a school or university or overseas - you have to have credentials like everyone else.

    I have a Master's in English with a rider to teach ESL.   But I still have to pass the state tests, get teacher's certificates, etc.

  4. If you want to teach ESL in a language school overseas, you need at least a bachelor's degree. If you want to teach in the school system, you will need a teaching certificate. University jobs usually require a Ph.D. although some universities will hire M.A.s as well.
