i'm just a typical tradesman, i hold 2 two-year certications one in applied electronics and another in automotive technology (ASE cert.) and one one-year in hvac and refrigeration. i'm sorely interested in leaving the u.s. for a more sensible place like Canada. but am i skilled enough to gain employment whereas i can support my family without struggle.

  1. You'll need aaa I think it's a green card you'll need, or you can be undocumented. Why not they come here to work. Check it out because the they are looking for people to move in their direction and may even pay you to live there.

  2. May be as long as you don't expect too much in wages at the beginning and if you have sufficient English skills.  You may be asked to have the local certificates and it is not that hard to get one by attending night school.  Do some research first for the salary range to see if you are happy with it, I know many people expected more pay and complained lots.  Employment Resource Centre is a place where you may get some ideas and help after arrival but you need to be a landed immigrant, not a visitor.

    Good luck.

  3. yes you are. There is demand for trades people and ther will be for a while. The best bet for ontario is to eventually venture into your own business . a simple ad in the local community paper will get you lots of work. The hvac guy htat i deal with ic currently refuseing work because it is just to much. It is important to have the canadian certification , Ontario is big on apprentiship now. lots of programs . I moved here many years ago the first two years was tough , its the best place to raise a family. cheers.

  4. Hey there,

Well, as a shop owner and fellow technician your qualifications for my area are right on the money.  The electrical knowledge and training is a major asset for drivability and climate control repairs.  Our climate doesnt support AC repairs all year round, but the corrosion accentuates electrical failures that yo umight not see in lower states.  Whenever I am looking for a technician it usually takes several months to find one as they are all currently employed and our resource pool is very shallow to draw from.  There are always positions available in the Job Market section of our local paper.  Expected wages for flat rate are from 19-26 dollars an hour and expect 16-22 for hourly with commissions.
