I read critics about each olympics ceremonies including Beijing

They said that China mostly expressed their culture and power in the ceremonies while most other ceremonies tried to show the world peace and stuff

like china only had that part in the opening ceremony where the guys walked around the globe. and the umbrella with faces

These are the reasons why i thought ceremonies were selfish

In the opening ceremony

- expression of their cultures and history (like showing what china invented, paper and etc)

-showing minorities in China (which shows that all these kids are chinese)

-manflyinggs (typical thing in chinese movie)

-fireworks (invention of chinese)

-use of many ppl (showing the unity of chinese

In the ending ceremony

-again the future of China (using drums, which represents china)

-tall model of top (chinese design) which represents....what?

-singers singing "i love beijing"

I thought these ceremonies did not have that much meaning for the World even though olympic is all about the world

  1. nope --- seems like it's only you who thinks China is selfish.

Should they not show what China is capable of? It's not like they were marching down with tanks, airplanes, and shooting at everyone that didn't applaud.

  2. What is it with you and your biased anti-China comments? Anyway, this question is so out there that I don't even know how to respond to it. If you don't think learning about China's culture has any meaning for the world, then I don't know what to say. Much of Chinese philosophy and culture is about how we can have peace and harmony...(for example, Confucianism, Taoism, and even the misguided Legalism). Also, the slogan and song "One World One Dream" says enough. You really should learn something about the Chinese people and their culture before asking all these irritating questions. They just show your ignorance. What is even worse is the way you ignored all the well-argued opinions that do not agree with yours, but I guess that is expected. Whatever, I don't care if I get thumbs-down or reported for this. I probably shouldn't even have bothered to respond since people like you probably ignore all information except those that agree with your opinion.

Edit: Lol, I just LOVE how you changed your name to "retarded chinese." How very mature. It really makes your comments so much more valid and reasonable.

  3. The Olympics was meant to show China to the world. Even the Chinese admits it's all about the image that's why they had to use a cuter girl instead of the real singer. They even selected only beautiful girls and women for the whole event. Did you see an ugly girl dancing during the opening? Did you see an ugly woman carrying the medals or ushering the athletes? No. Women in China are not all beautiful but that is the image they want to present. China is a significant part of the world but the world is not just China. However, everytime a Chinese speaks, it's all about China.

  4. Definitely we were being selfish,,,,o also retarded

  5. yea i feel china did a great job of making their people look like robots, barely any of them had smiles on their faces while they were spectating and i bet the guy that caught the ball kicked by beckham is dead by now for humiliating their country.

im sure if other countries had 40 billion to blow on it they would have done a better job

  6. "I thought these ceremonies did not have that much meaning for the World even though olympic is all about the world"

There are 1.3 billion Chinese people in China, not including tens of millions overseas.  Chinese people is a significant part of the world.

But regardless, it's normal for a host city to emphasize the host nation's culture, achievements, and entertainment.  Otherwise, all the Olympics from Athens to Beijing will show the exact same thing everytime, and who would want to see that?

  7. this is obviously a flamer's question, and it just shows nothing but your ignorance of other cultures.  have u been outside of utah ?

  8. I Don't think China showed selfishness in the Opening and Closing ceremonies.

They showed the world what they had to offer.

Any country that is patriotic is bound to show their culture. And any country that hosts the Olympics or any other big event wants to show a great performance on a massive scale. I think that's only smart and fair.

Try seeing the glass half full rather than half empty and you might see the positives in these olympics.

  9. - It is obvious for the host nation to demonstrate their culture, history, and achievements during the opening/closing ceremonies.  That's common sense.  Can you imagine how difficult it is to stage a live performance of the world, within a few hour time frame during the opening ceremony?  You seriously think you can include all the nations into the live performances?

Stop doing drugs, and travel more (Internationally).

Yes, the Olympic is about the unity of the world.  And that's exactly what happened for two weeks, different countries competed.

So why would you think its selfish of China to showcase themselves for 4 hours.  I think that's very reasonable.  Beside, they did an excellent job with the performances. If you think otherwise, then name another live performance that's better than the Beijing ceremonies.
