Hi my name is megan and i am 13 years old and am going into 9th grade. I have been taking dance classes for two years, but only jazz and hip hop, and it was only one class a week. But i desperately want to start ballet, and i think that if i do i would love it a lot. I just practice the positions and do plies around the house along with little twirls here and there and i already think it is my passion and future, and i can’t bare to see it on stage knowing i can’t do it. But my goal is to start ballet this upcoming school year (when classes take place) and i hope to be at pointe level, so i could take it senior year… do you think that is possible? there are girl’s in my grade that have been doing pointe since like 6th grade, should i give up? is it to late for me? And i know i am younger, but i hope to be a dance major in college, what can i do in my 4 years at high school and in taking dance to help me persue that dream? sorry about all the questions but i really hope to do this. thanks ahead of time!!

  1. I totally think you should do it. I do jazz and hiphop, but I might do ballet and tap this year because I also depseralty love dance and want to improve on it and be in company. I'm going into seventh grade though, but people starting at 20 can even get amazing with pratice. The most importaant advice I can give to you is to pratice, and stay deidtcated and you will be good soon! Don't give up because you don't know it as well as the other girls, it's good that your taking a risk and trying something new! I think you start out with a class with people a little bit younger than you, so you can get some of the basic steps down, before youn go into your aGE GROUP. Well, jgope this ghelped! Good kuluck with dancing.

  2. You're never too old to start anything. You can be ready and up to speed with girls who have done it longer if you put your heart into it and practice harder than they do. It will take a lot of work, but it IS possible.

  3. I don't think it will be too much of a problem. If you are flexible enough and are dedicated to it you should do well.

    Good Luck!

  4. I had just re-started taking ballet this year.. and i am your age. I must say it took me a few months to catch up to the other dancers that were there since they were 3, but if you are challenged enough, then you will get to their level in no time!

you probably wont be able to take pointe right away, because you need to have a few years or experiance first...

also, look into a dance school that you can go practice at every day, and that should help you get into a dancing college!!!!

  5. omg we have like the same story. im 13 too and going into grade 9 and ive only taken about 7 months hip hop and i really wanted to do ballet and so im going to! i really have a passion for it and im gonna try really hard and not give up and i think i can become a dancer. and i also twirl around my house :P You should do ballet for sure!!!

  6. You are never to old to start ballet classes. Yes, if you join you will probably be in classes with littler kids, but if you put your heat and mind into it, you can most definently get to where you want to be. But, you have to practice, practice, practice. And I suggest taking more then one class a week. I hope that you accomplish your goal and I hope that I helped you.

  7. Go for it! You are NEVER too old to achieve your dreams! I know a girl that is 15 who is just now starting ballet! Just do it, girl. Trust me, you'll be fine. =D

  8. never too old!

  9. no your not  to old just dance

  10. Of course your not to old! .. you already dance so you will learn how to pick up the steps quite quickly ... if its what you want to do then go for it! :D have fun! xx

  11. start now!!!! its never to late! and try out for your high school drill team....they r always the coolest ppl in school!
