  1. It's never too late to start hockey i do prefer taking a few skating lessons before starting and  you will learn how to control the puck and advanced skills over the season. Also goalie or player that descicion is yours being goalie may take a bit longer to learn all the basics but in the end its worth it i enjoy being goalie and player too. the cost of the equipment im not sure but being goalie the pads are more expensive then being player also i would like to add in at your age players have started contact play meaning you can hit before you start i do recomend taking a few lessons on the basics of hockey otherwise i think you should join its a sport that takes commitment and its lots of fun!

  2. Well Obviously I have to tell you something...

    Do not listen to them...

It's not a matter of "everyone can do it you're not different!"

    'cause that's BS.

If you want to start hockey to play pro, or college it's not too late, it's gonna be pretty hard, and you might want to stop after 3 weeks of real hard training, but if you have the mental to do it you'll be able to reach the ECHL/WHL/OHL/NCAA/ or maybe AHL/NHL.

Fabian Brunstrom (sorry for the spelling) started hockey when he was 17 years old and was signed this year (he is 23) by Dallas and was seen as the best non-NHL hockey player.

Being Goalie or Player is not an Easy Question.

I'm goalie, and I've ALWAYS been a goalie since I'm 4 years old...it not an easy question but it's an easy choice, 'cause almost anyone can be a player, maybe not a good player but everyone who can skate can be a C/RW/LW, or Dmen, but it's not everyone that can be a goalie.

It's in the head, it's mental, you're a goalie or you're not, if you close your eyes each time you're facing the puck forget it...

If you start asking too much question during the game, your team is done.

If you question yourself each time you give out a goal you'll never be a goalie.

Goalies are mentaly insane...I'm sorry but we are insane...most of the time a goalie won't be like other players, maybe a little bit too freak, too tense, or the complete opposite too calm, or too distant but goalies are different.

Check all great goalies in the NHL history, they're all pretty fucked up...Roy was a human bomb, so arrogant, but so skilled, same for Jacques Plante, Marty Brodeur is so relax during a game, he's so clear, so away and he has a particular personnality...and check out Carey Price...Carey is so calm, SO calm he could give out 2 goals in 10 seconds and still focus on the game without being stressed...he reacts the same way if the team wins 6-0 or 5-4...You know inside of you if you're a goalie...

For the Prices...well you're young so you'll buy Intermediate stuff...

I think you should pay something like 800$-1300$ for the  Entire goalie equipment (800$= cheap stuff) and when you'll be like 5'8 or more it's gonna be something like 1900$ - 6000$ depending of the quality of your equipment and your level...

Most of the time player stuff is a bit less expensive so...If you're not sponsored and don't have a huge budget well you don't really have the choice... you can also check for used goalie/player equipment

    -  Great prices at goaliemonkey.com I used to buy my equipment there when I had to pay it lol and it's a short delivery time, and guys knows goalies and what's better for you...

    - hockeymonkey.com is also the same but for players

  3. It's never too old to start.  I didn't start playing hockey until I was 12 or so and started by playing street hockey as well.  I'm now at least fairly good (I can hold my own in a local rec league).

You're better off starting as a player.  Pads will be MUCH cheaper than if you played goalie, plus you'll need to work on your skating before you ever start playing goalie.

Make sure you practice skating often and perfect it as best you can, try to play in an organized league as well so you can learn the other fundamentals of the league.

Most importantly, have fun!  You won't be making the NHL or anything but you'll have tons of fun playing.

  4. its never 2 late

  5. No sir, 14 is not too old to take out a second mortgage and buy all that equipment. Should maybe get a second set of gear, just in case. hitS happen, doncha know.

Sorry if I sound sceptical, thrown off by that Florida thing.

  6. I am a goalie and on eBay I got brand new pads that had the price tag $800 on them but I only paid $200 so if you are playing goalie go to eBay because you will get stuff a lot cheaper (I don't know about player equipment). You can also get blockers cheap there, in total I would say to be a goalie (and this is if you get good deals or eBay prices on things) it will cost about $800 maybe a little more but if you go to a shop it will cost about $2000. To be a player I would say it would cost $500 with moderately new stuff, with all new than maybe $800. This all depends on were you go, go to play it again sports for cheap stuff or just search online, to get very good quality but expensive stuff just go to any hockey store near you, or any of the hockey stores that are in the rinks. I recommend if you are starting hockey that you should go to a b league because Michigan is a pretty competitive hockey state but essentially you are the only one that knows what level you should be playing at.

  7. You didn't state the current position you play in street hockey.

The Ice Sport Forum would be a good place to start.  They sell gear there, but I would recommend Play It Again Sports instead (they also have new gear).

You are too old for anything professional (sorry pumpkin), but you are never to old to play hockey.

    Good Luck!

  8. start now will you have a chance to make it some where

player maybe alittle more than a thousand for good equipment but its your fisrt year buy used only spend big money on skates you need great skates goalie will be 1000 to 1700

  9. Well I only know the answer to one of your questions...  I don't think you are to old to start.  I was 13 when I started, a year younger then you.  Although I must say I really regret not starting earlier, considering I've skated for about my whole life and I've always played road hockey with my brother growing up and watched all his games and stuff... And I really LOVE hockey!!!  I don't know ow I survived without it lol!!!

  10. If you love hockey play it no matter how old you are, you may not make the best team right away but with practice and coaching you'll start to catch on for equipment it depends on the brands you get but a goalie is guaranteed to be more expensive than a player and it will be around 2000 to 3000 dollars (in Canada anyways) and a player will be around 1000 ( at least 100 for skates, 100 for stick, 60 for pants, 100 for helmet and cage, 70 shoulder pads etc ) so about 1000 to 1800. Its expensive when you buy it all at once but for hockey its always totally worth it! Im not sure if youd make a better player or goalie but i recommend player for someone who hasnt really played beofre because a goalie needs balance, agility, quick reactions list goes on.I would go with PLAYER ( centre always the best position!)
