  1. Not too sure what your budget is, so I'll give you a break down of all

the cameras worth buying (they are listed from best to worst, in my opinion :) , in each category):

    consumer (under $1,000): Canon HV30, Sony HDR-HC9

    prosumer HD: Sony EX1 ($6,500), Panasonic HVX200A ($5,200), JVC GY-HD110U ($4,000)

    prosumer (standard def): Panasonic DVX100B ($2,500), Sony PD170 ($2,500), Sony VX2100 ($2,300), Canon GL2 ($2,000)

    professional: Red Scarlet ($3,000)

If you can afford it, the Red Scarlet would be an excellent excellent choice. It's not even HD, it's 3K, which is Ultra High Definition. It also has a large image sensor (2/3") which is good for shallow DOF. It also shoots up to 120fps which is great for super slow motion shots. http://www.red.com/nab/scarlet

If you can't afford it, the Canon HV30 is an excellent HD quality camera that has the advantage of a simpler HD workflow and a point and shoot style convenience... which is a good thing.

If your primary use is for web videos, then you'll probably master in standard def. Even though HD downconverted to an SD master always looks better than SD itself, you could save yourself the money and get a good SD camera. The DVX100B would be great, in that case. It was the best prosumer camera available, in it's day (which was like 3 years ago).

    Well, I hope that helps!
