  1. Could`nt you start by getting in touch with BP or Shell Im sure they would put you on the right track

  2. you need an EDH,ENG1,CPSC, I could go on, but get to a nautical collage get qualified including sea time,the eng1 is a medical

  3. Depending on which company you wish to work for, what state you live in, or if the company requires you to have an Able Seaman's certification are factors in finding this job.

    I almost got on with NOAA, but I was stopped dead in my tracks when I didn't have my Able Seaman certification.

    I do believe the US Coast Guard can help point you in the right direction if you do need to be an Able Seaman to work aboard an oil tanker.

    Good luck.  I'm an electrician now.  See what happens when you go to the wrong trade school!  :)

  4. just take yourself to Morgan City, La. and grab a phone book.  it's home to many companies.

  5. I not sure where you live. But, whenever we move my brother's boat (New dock or hurricane coming). I see places all around the shores of the Gulf and boats going out to work on the oil rigs. Heck, my brother and me are always saying; "I bet a person radio that boat, he would put you to work right now"!

    So, that my story. Here how I would do it. You may be able to search on the Inet. Try; Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and possibly Alabama. Also if you pull up a Mapquest of Galveston, Texas. You can move the Map around by dragging and zoom in/out. See what Cities are along the coast and search those specific. After I did my "Paperwork" (Today it known as Inet). I would have a list of Names, Addresses and Phone Numbers. Then I take a road trip with a Backpack/Tent. Sometimes Camping a good vacation and look for work too. Get talking to people here and there and you will find a job. Here is why;

    We Americans are a little on the lazy side. This can work to our advantage for work. When a man is busy, he not have time to look for help. But, when the help come looking for him, he accepts the offer. He not have to "Weed" through 100 job applications. He sees you ready and willing to make an effort to find him. He thinks, this a working man and smart too, finding me. So, he will ask, "when can you start". Have your answer, because if you say; "when you want me to start"? He may very well say; "Today". I not lie on this.
