  1. Other than the computer and the DVD player, why would you bring all that stuff?  Shipping it to Japan would be much more expensive than buying it in Kobe, and while you can get converters it would be a hassle and might not work as well, especially with something as big as a refrigerator. Refrigerator, blender, juicer, barbecue, etc . . . save yourself the hassle and buy them in Japan!

As for the computer, they usually have built-in converter boxes on the cord that work for a range of voltages.

The DVD player would be useful for playing DVDs from India, but wouldn`t play Japanese DVDs.  You could use a small converter for plugging it in.

  2. The electrical outlet in India is typically 220 volts AC and at 50 Hz. In Kobe, it's 100 volts AC and 60 Hz. And of course, the plug shapes are different. The converter you need would be a step-up transformer.

Most computers today have a universal power supply, so it's likely it won't need a transformer. If the power supply says something like "Input: AC 100-240V 50-60 Hz," then you just need a plug adapter.

Television standards are different in countries. India uses PAL, and Japan uses NTSC, so your DVD player will not produce an image on a Japanese TV. DVDs are also region coded. India is Region 5, and Japan is Region 2, so your DVD player will not play Japanese DVDs. A Japanese DVD player will also not play any DVD you bring from India. If you're bringing a LCD TV along, the DVD player and TV will work as a unit. Again, though, an Indian TV will not receive Japanese broadcasts.

I would not feel comfortable using a large appliance like a refrigerator with a transformer. It may be a fire hazard. It would be much safer to just buy a new Japanese refrigerator.

A blender and a juicer should be ok to use with an electric converter (transformer and plug adapter). If I understand a barbecue to be an electric grill, it might be using too much electric wattage to be safe. At best, it might blow the fuse on the transformer. At worst, it could be a fire hazard.
