We would like somewhere warm (maybe the coast) and a good area for the kids to grow up in. I am working as a nurse at the moment. Could any one give us any ideas?

  1. the best ctiyin townis yourk

  2. Why don't you consider Biarritz  (Basque country).

The city is very nice, there is an amazing seaside, and Spain is only 10km far away (Irun,Spain, is famous for its low-cost shops).

Moreover, Ryanair connects Biarritz to London on a daily base. As you are nurse, I guess it would be easy to get a job because many rich elders choose to spend their last days in Biarritz.

Biarritz is reputated to enjoy the warmest winter of France.

  3. I agree with Edouard B, the Basque Country is picturesque, historical and has a warm climate, close to the Pyrenees too.  However, be warned that the area gets more rain than Eire!  If you come inland a bit, you will get more for your money and will not have to put up with the crowds of tourists invading in the Summer months.  Salies-de-Bearn is a lovely town with a thermal spa 35miles from Biarritz.  Do think carefully though, I have read of people with second homes in this area having them burnt down by French Basque protestors who resent foreigners pricing locals out of the market.  The area is becoming very popular wih Brits (one third of house sales were to them the year before last).

The Haut-Poitou (capital Poitiers) does not have the scenery (v flat, but lovely sunflowers in summer).  It not very touristy and still quite cheap to buy places.  It is not that far south but enjoys a nice climate and is the sunniest part of France.

  4. Toulouse or Montpellier are the best places in the south of France

  5. winter is still cold in france, even on the coast....france is not sunny all yr long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i especially like the bergerac area......lot's of stuff for kids-- caves, castles, farm area & old towns .......in the wine region for you....

  6. Don't move to France, I did 18 months ago and I hate it Go somewhere else please!

  7. Nice it's a beautiful city, on the coast. The view on the sea is very nice, and the weather is always warm. And there are a lot of shops, restaurants...

  8. the towns in the south are great, but don't choose marseille. Nice is enough expensive, but Montpellier is no doubt one of the best town on the coast for growxing and study

  9. Yep,Biarritz for sunsets over the surf,I have lived there a few years ago and it's beautiful. Yes it does rain alot..but mostly in shower form..ps: yesterday it was 38"c(102f) a tad warmer than london!!!!

  10. That depends on your needs, big town, quiet town... Montpellier is the most dynamic town

  11. Montpellier, in the south. It is a wonderful place and very close from the seaside. If you need accomodation for few nites, you can go to "Caserne Jean Gilly" they have warm cells and a decent breakfast :o) Just joking, that is the Gendarmerie Central, he he ! I have a friend there thou !

  12. Bandol

  13. Come to Nice !

There is an international airport (easy to get in/out )with direct flights to JFK daily...

The sea is much warmer and quieter than the Atlantic...

The climate is warm all year 'round (I am living here and ride my motorcycle everyday ) only about 20 rainy days a year...

Ski resorts less than 2 hours drive...

Italy boarder only 30 minutes away using highway...

Beautifull Corsica island reachable by air(45mn flight) or speed ferries (2h45mn)

A lot to do and see (museums, festivals, sports,....etc)
