I took dance in high school and haven't since then. I love it so much, miss it all the time, but am super embarrassed to take lessons where everyone is significantly younger than I am. I was considering private lessons, but how would I teacher respond to someone my age doing 5 year old dance steps?

  1. You are only as old as you think you are !!!  I'm almost 50 & I STILL love to shake a leg (lol).  What has age got to do with it !! Where there's a WILL, there's a WAY

  2. I would go for it. There may even be adult classes for you to take. You're never too old to dance, as long as you can move it! If you do feel too embarrassed then go for private lessons, but I'd ask if there are adult classes to take and ask to sit in on one before you sign up for anything. And check around with other studios.

  3. well, they might think you are silly.. but there are classes with people that are seniors in highschool.. also many dance places have adult classes, although that tends to be women in their late 30's early 40's.. it's not uncommon for a dancer your age to still take classes, but that would be if you are up to par with the kids in the advanced classes.. because they most likely wouldn't put you in a dance with 10 year olds if that was your skill range. just look around at different schools in your area :]

  4. In my area, there are classes for adults.  Try and see if there are any where you live.

  5. I started at 25, but I worked my butts and body off. Never took any dance class before, was more into martial arts. But I did really well after a couple of years. Couldn't get into Jazz in the beginning because there was no beginning dance for Jazz so, after 4 months, got into a class. It's just how much you want it. Except for my Jazz instructor who did not let me take class in the  beginning, all my dance instructors where supportive - ballet and modern (almost exactly like lyrical) and later on my Jazz instructor was supportive. All you could do is try so you won't have no regrets later on in life.

  6. If you are going to be starting modern or lyrical it would probably be better to do a jazz class aswell because jazz is  for late modern starters but if you have a good teacher they should be able to do a good job.

  7. To tell you the truth, they won't care (because sad to say this, but they'll like you because you're paying them money - and extra if you go for privates).  Plus, if you're cute they really won't care.  So, don't worry about it and just go dance and have fun!  Good luck!
