Thanks for your input. There is not a problem with ice or anything like that, that I know of. Basically, the fridge was not cooling or freezing, but the light would still come on. I unplugged and replugged the fridge back in today and it started right up. I called the local appliance parts person, because I don't think that it magically started working again. The parts guy said that he was 99% sure it was the adaptive defrost timer. He asked if we had water pooling under the fridge. Well, we haven't had that recently although last summer there was this intermittent drip of water from the basement ceiling that is right below where the fridge is. He told me that the part is around $50 +/- USD. It is an amana side by side.SZD22NW P1162401WW SO# 9301163146. I found the part online and the guy told me it's looks like the motherboard on a computer and that when we look at it, we should be able to see that it might be black in some areas where the board has been fried. The thing I need to know is this. How do I get to that part from the back of the fridge. I know that I'm supposed to take off the panel, but there are several. I've tried to look it up on the web and can't find a blow up diagram that would show me where, on this model, that part would be so we could look at it.
Thanks in advance for your help.
