Amanda Bennenbroek stamps Annelise Pfahlert in 2012 NZ Secondary Schools Championships
The budding Women’s Singles shuttler Amanda Bennenbroek proved her point by overwhelming Annelise Pfahlert in NZCT NZ Secondary Schools Championships on September 5, 2012.
This hard fought battle prolonged to three gruelling sets before ending with a final margin of 21-12, 15-21 and 21-16.
This encounter, staged at Christchurch in New Zealand, was first Women’s Singles tie of a match between Waikato Diocesan and Burnside High.
Amanda played with great perfection and fetched a vital match point for her team by prevailing in the ending two games.
On the other hand, Annelise failed to play her given role and knelt down tamely in crucial moments of the tussle.
The victorious shuttler tipped the scale in her favour by gaining first match point with a huge difference in the final total.
Amanda launched a brisk attack and confined her rival in the rear court. She proved her dominance in a few back-to-back rallies and then capitalised this psychological edge to place a mountainous total of 11 at half time.
She did not lose that touch in the latter part of the game and kept beating her challenger all the way to final moments.
Annelise strived hard to come out of this deficit but she could not hit the mark and surrendered after reading 12-21 score on the board.
However, she did not disappoint her team-mates in the following set and made amends by winning this crucial game on merit.
This time the spirited campaigner of Burnside High confounded the opposing shuttler with a fine blend of power packed smashes and deceiving net play.
Annelise established a strong grip with couple of consecutive points and kept her competitor at the lower end until one-minute break.
After the interval, she kept the bird under her control and levelled the match score with an overwhelming figure of 21-15.
The decider was expected to be a nerve-racking fight as both shuttlers were looking to pocket final match point to oust the opponent.
Unexpectedly, third set turned into a dead contest as Amanda showed elevated craft and outclassed Annelise in all areas of the game.
She sealed a 2-1 victory by putting a convincing margin of 21-16 and saved Waikato Diocesan’s honour to some extent.
