Amanda Carey wins the North Carolina Grand Prix - Race 1 2012 Elite Women
Amanda Carey of Team Volkswagen Boise Cycling surpassed her major opponents during the North Carolina Grand Prix-Race 1 Elite Women category after her astonishing performance during the event.
The cyclist rode brilliantly throughout the day and completed the race in a total time of 42 minutes and 16 second securing the top podium position and overcoming the race favourites.
Katie Arnold of Team Bob’s Red Mill finished 20 seconds behind at the second spot while Emily Shields of Team Mock Orange Bikes finishes further 14 seconds behind at the third position.
Amanda was delighted after winning the race and stated that, although the competition is not the same like USGP however, the strategic course made it pretty difficult to claim the top spot.
"I've been on podiums with really fast people, but I've never won one of my own so this is great," Carey told Cyclingnews.
"I wanted to take advantage of the front-row start, I don't think I've had one of those all season long. I just wanted to stay out of trouble and ride smooth and smart.
"This is a deceivingly hard course because it takes so much power. You have to pedal and if you don't you just shut down. There's absolutely no room for rest because as soon as you stop pedalling you're losing time," she concluded.
Katie Arnold was disappointed with her second position but she was not short of words when it comes to admire her compatriot and the race winner, Amanda Carey.
She stated that Carey rode brilliantly, right from the start of the race and stated that she planned her attack a little too late which was enough for Carey to secure the top spot.
Erica Zaveta of Team Lees McRae College, Rebecca Blatt of Team Van Dessel, Ellen Noble of Team Trek Cyclocross Collective and Katherine Shields of Team Mock Orange Bikes secured the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh positions respectively.
Erin Silliman of Team Corsa Concepts Cyclocross, Sara Tussey of Team VeloShine Cycling and Corey Coogan-Cisek of Team Cyclocrossracing.com p/b Blue Competition Cycles managed to finish among top 10, achieving the eighth, ninth and tenth positions in the
respective order.
