Amanda Spratt brought the first tour win for Team GreenEdge-AIS
Amanda Spratt helped Team GreenEdge-AIS to secure the second stage win for the side. She cruised through to the finish-line during the final stage of Jayco Bay Cycling Classic.
Her teammate, Melissa Hoskins, finished three seconds behind and secured the second position.
Chloe Hosking of Team Total Rush stood third, whereas Rochelle Gilmore and Annette Edmondson attained the fourth and fifth spots.
Melissa’s second place finish earned her enough points to claim the overall victory at the event. She became the first ever cyclist for the Australian squad to win the general classifications.
The 21-year-old was brilliant throughout the four day series and delivered her best on the final stage.
She commented on winning the race, "I knew my team would look after me and they did really well." Hoskins appreciated the efforts of her teammates and thanked them for their support.
"I just had to back myself again, the girls did everything out there to keep me there so it was up to me to not let them down and coming around that last corner, that's the fastest I think I've ever taken a corner in my life", Amanda continued.
A terrific start for Team GreenEdge-AIS as two of its riders secured the top two positions after the final general classifications.
Melissa Hoskins earned 32 points, whereas her teammate, Amanda Spratt, finished second with 29 points to her credit.
Chloe Hosking, Rochelle Gilmore and Jessie Maclean achieved the third, fourth and fifth positions, with 29, 21 and 16 points, respectively.
GreenEdge-AIS cyclists, Shara Gillow and Jessie Maclean, won the Sprint Ace Competition with 10 and 6 points each.
Chloe Hosking came in third with 5 points, whereas Tiffany Cromwell finished fourth with 4 points.
A perfect World Tour start for the Australian team as it secured the first position with the highest points, 94, after the final General Classification.
Team Total Rush/ Hyster finished second with 43 points, along with Bike Exchange.com.au landing in the third position.
On the other hand, Allan Davis of Mitchelton Wines won the Elite Men’s category of the race. He leads the final General Classifications with 29 points. Caleb Ewan, Anthony Giacoppo, Bernie Sulzberger and Chris Sutton finished second, third, fourth and fifth,
respectively.
