Amanda Weir secure Women’s 50m freestyle gold – 2013 Arena Grand Prix
Amanda Weir of SwimAtlanta-GA secured gold medal of the Women’s 50m freestyle on day two of the 2013 Arena Grand Prix in Colorado, USA, on Friday, February 15.
The 26-year-old Weir showed no mercy to her opponents in the shortest freestyle discipline and cruised her way towards the finishing end for gold medal. Weir faced tough competition from her following swimmer in the first half, but with her gruelling efforts,
she managed to emerge on the finishing end for the title.
With her notable pace, Weir stayed in a lead of two arm strokes over her toughest competitor and surfaced on the wall for first position with an effort of 25.53 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Victoria Poon of PPO, who was 0.31 seconds slower and stepped on the finishing wall for silver medal by producing an effort of 25.84 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Simone Manuel of First Colony Swimming, who was 0.01 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and completed the podium by winning bronze medal with an effort of 25.85 seconds.
Manuel was traced by Isabella Arcila of Southern Methodists, who was 0.27 seconds slower and settled on the finishing end for fourth position by clocking a time of 26.12 seconds.
Fifth finest spot of the race was obtained by Nathalie Lindborg of Southern Methodists, who was only an inch behind and hit the wall with an effort of 26.26 seconds.
Lindborg was followed by her teammate, Nina Rangelova, who was 0.06 seconds behind and posted an effort of 26.32 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Kathryn McLaughlin of Mission Viejo Nadadores, who was 0.17 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 26.49 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Noemie Thomas of UBCD, who was 0.29 seconds away from overwhelming her former finisher. Despite of her exhausting efforts, Thomas failed to upset any of her competitors and completed her race in eighth place with an
effort of 26.68 seconds.
In addition, Weir was extremely pleased with her notable form and collected her accolades after the session.
