Amandine Hesse stuns Anna Floris to enter title-round – Djibouti ITF 2012
French starlet, Amandine Hesse, surprised everyone after shocking the top seed, Anna Floris, in a three-set topsy-turvy match at the Djibouti ITF 2012 on Friday. She nudged up a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory against the Italian veteran to power into the final round
at this ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place in Djibouti.
Seeded third in this event, Hesse showed her best tennis to outmuscle Floris in their first battle against each other. After record this fame in almost two and half hours, the French booked a spot in the final showdown at this outdoor hard court tournament
taking place from 17th to 23rd September.
The French teenager made quick in-roads at the Centre de Tennis de Gabode 4. She held her serves with conviction until the sixth game. Hesse unleashed flurry of groundstrokes, eventually stroking out the last three games with a break of serve. She fended
off all three breakpoints she came across and cashed the lone break chance to inch closer towards her goal.
Ranked 245th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Floris re-focused in the proceeding set. She broke her rival’s serve in the opening game and took the initial lead. Apart from losing her edge in the very next game, the 30-year-old
broke her opponent’s serve again and leaped to a 3-1 lead. She then held her composure and subsequently clinched the equaliser with a 6-4 score line. The Italian brushed off two out of three breakpoints she faced and converted two out five break opportunities
to her advantage.
The 19-year-old sought her early momentum again in the final set. She smoothly swiped her entire serves with self-assurance. Hesse got the breakthrough in the last game after availing the only break chance and clicked the decider with a 6-4 win. Hesse showed
brilliant defensive skills as she dusted away all five breakpoints she faced.
Next in queue for Hesse is the fourth seed, Melanie Klaffner from Austria. The seeded Austrian shocked second seed, Margarita Lazareva, in straight sets to set up this meeting. She ruled throughout the battle, consequently recording a 6-3, 6-4 victory in
almost one hour and 15 minutes.
