Amani Toomer stands by his words, still thinks Tony Romo is better than Eli Manning – NFL News
Former New York Giants wide receiver Amani Toomer, who is now a sports analyst, is standing by his words that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is better than Giants quarterback Eli Manning with whom Toomer also won a Super Bowl ring.
A day earlier, Toomer commented during a radio show that Romo was better than Manning and that he being a wide receiver would prefer playing with Romo throwing the ball rather than Manning.
Toomer’s remarks caused a slight stir as a majority of observers believe that Manning is far better than Romo.
Manning has played two Super Bowl games and won both, while Romo has not yet been able to play any playoff game in his career. Also, Manning performs much better under pressure than Romo and the former has more fourth-quarter comebacks to his name.
Moreover, Manning also has better record when it comes to head-to-head encounter between the two quarterbacks. Romo’s overall playoff record is also not as good as Manning’s.
Toomer acknowledged all these facts, but still maintained that Romo is better than Manning, statistically.
Now, Toomer has once again made it clear that being an analyst he sees Romo as a better quarterback than Manning.
Talking to The Michael Kay Show on ESPN NewYork 98.7 FM, he said that previously he also considered Manning a better quarterback than Romo. However, he asserted that when he looked at the record of both players, Romo began to look a better quarterback.
He said:
"I was all set -- Romo's no good, he's a fourth-quarter choker -- and then I started doing my job. I started looking at the numbers. I started looking at the statistics. I started looking at the quarterback rating. And I was shocked. I was shocked at how good Tony Romo's statistics really were.”
He later added:
"I love Eli, and I respect the h**l out of him as a person. But I have to do my job, and I have to look at him beyond what the perception is because the perception doesn't always go hand in hand with the reality."
The Giants and Cowboys are going to face each other in the 2012 season opener and the critics will get answers to their many questions in that game.
