Amare' Stoudemire confident of making it for the game-4; Sorry for his actions - NBA Update
Last Monday, the New York Knicks received two blows, the first came in the form of a 104-94 defeat at the hands of Miami Heat making the series 0-2, and the second when Amare Stoudemire ousted himself from the upcoming games by
putting his hand through the glass casing of a fire extinguisher holder.
Although there have been reports that the Knicks power forward will not be able to make a comeback in the series, Stoudemire on Tuesday sounded confident of making an appearance in game-4 to be played at the Madison Square Garden.
"I persevere through a lot of injuries. And I work hard to recover from injuries. So by the hands of the most high, hopefully I'll be ready to play for Sunday," he said.
Players usually have different reaction after the defeat. Some take it down to the water cooler and others to the chairs but the 29 years old hit a fire extinguisher case. His fist hit the 2 inch thick glass which tore through
his left hand muscle, causing laceration on the inside of his palm, one that had to be surgically repaired on Tuesday.
A witness pictured the gruesome incident.
"Half of his hand was just hanging off. It was really bad. Blood was just squirting out."
He didn’t participate in the 3rd game and his presence in the 4th is still under a shadow of doubt. Stoudemire had also missed 13 games in the regular season due to a bulging disk in back.
During a press conference he also apologized for his actions, which has rendered his team short-handed in the front court for the all important game three. He also reiterated that he didn’t want to hit the glass and was actually
aiming for the wall.
"Everybody gets upset. You're so passionate for the game. Everyone gets upset at times, but never in a million years did I think that I would actually cut my hand the way I did it," Stoudemire said. "So, bad timing, but I'll be
back."
The Knicks face an uphill task of containing the Miami heat on Thursday night, and with Jeremy Lin and Iman Shumpert already out, the Knicks have their work cut out.
