The New York Knicks All-Star forward says his passion got the best of him when he slapped a fire extinguisher at the American Airlines Arena....
Coming off from a back injury, Amare' Stoudemire had only started to get back in rhythm in the first round playoff series against the mighty Miami Heat. However his return was short lived and Stoudemire was out again with an injured
hand after he punched a fire extinguisher in frustration following the Game-2 loss, causing him to miss the next two crucial games of the series.
The frustration was expected as Stoudemire was only coming back and had to go through the daunting task of facing a team like Miami. But to the All-star forward, it wasn’t the frustration but rather his passion that got in the
way as he revealed how exactly he injured his hand in a recently given interview on Fox Sports Radio.
“It wasn’t a punch at all actually. It was more like a slap against the wall, but I caught the edge of the fire extinguisher. Some people think I balled my fist up and punched through a glass fire extinguisher, which is totally
opposite of the truth. It was more like a smack against the wall, kind of a backhand or a reach back slap across the wall and caught the edge of the fire extinguisher. I think a lot of people confused my passion with frustration. I’m such a passionate player.
I want to win so bad to where sometimes I want to win, so I bring my passion and it gets confused with frustration.”
Although the Knicks were always destined to go down in that series, Stoudemire's absence made the task easier for LeBron James and company. It was not a very smart thing to do on Stoudemire’s part as it left the Knicks without
a major force on the paint. To add insult to the injury, Jeremy Lin was also unavailable and Iman Shumpert had just torn an ACL in game 1.
