Amar’e Stoudemire, Russell Westbrook bag Player of the Week awards

For their outstanding performances from 15 November to 21 November, New York Knicks power-forward Amar’e Stoudemire and Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook bagged the Eastern
and Western Conference Player of the Week awards, respectively, the league announced on Monday 22 November.

Stoudemire led the Knicks to a 3-1 record in their tough four-game west coast trip last week, averaging 29 points and 9.5 rebounds a game, highlighted by an impressive 60.8 per cent clip
from the field.

The 28-year-old power-forward led the Knicks to their first three-game winning streak this season, by posting double-double performance in each of their three wins. Stoudemire dominated in
their 113-106 win against the Sacramento Kings on 17 November, tallying 27 points and 10 rebounds, and he followed it up with a 26-point and 11-rebound performance against the Golden State Warriors on 19 November.

Stoudemire then tallied 39 points and 11 rebounds, leading the Knicks to their third-straight victory with a pulsating 124-115 win over Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday 20 November, where
Blake Griffin tallied a career-high 44 points.

Westbrook, on the other hand, averaged 23 points and 7.8 assists per game last week, leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to a perfect 4-0 record last week.

The 22-year-old guard kicked off the week with a 22-point performance in their win over the Utah Jazz, 115-108, on 15 November, and he picked up from where left off as he scored 21 points
and dished out 12 assists in their 116-99 victory over the Houston Rockets on 17 November.

And in their game against the defending eastern conference champions Boston Celtics on 19 November, the Thunder played without scoring leader Kevin Durant, but Westbrook came to the rescue
as the former UCLA standout tallied 31 points and six assists, helping his team escape with an 89-84 win.

He capped off his outstanding week by hitting two crucial free throws for the Thunder that led to their thrilling 82-81 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on 20 November.

Westbrook bagged his second-career Western Conference Player of the Week award.
