Amar’e Stoudemire on song as New York Knicks edge out Philadelphia 76ers 82 – 79 – NBA Recap
The New York Knicks rolled on to their fifth victory in as many games after defeating the Philadelphia 76ers 82 – 79 on Wednesday. Playing at the Wells Fargo Center, the Knicks silenced the home crowd early but Philadelphia came back into the game after the interval, only to narrowly miss out on a win.
Amar’e Stoudemire was the more lethal weapon in the Knicks arsenal for this encounter. The forward scored a game high 21 points and had 9 rebounds in an all action display. His play was complemented by a decent showing by Jeremy Lin, who had 18 points.
"It was a good test for us to match up with them and see where we are. I think we got off to a good start and were able to hang on at the end. It was a very good win for our team." Lin said.
Carmelo Anthony managed 10 points and 5 rebounds.
In contrast, the scoring was spread more evenly between the Philadelphia players. Jrue Holiday was perhaps the standout with 16 points and 6 assists. Elton Brand scored 12 points and had 12 boards for his double-double.
Andre Iguodala, Jodie Meeks and Louis Williams netted 13 points each.
The Knicks got off to a superb start with a 9 – 0 burst from jump ball. The lead was extended to 17 – 5 late in the first quarter before it ended 19 – 11.
Philadelphia played better in the second frame. Although they weren’t able to close down the gap early, just after the half way mark a 9 – 0 sprint got them to within 31- 29. Knicks though responded with a 7 – 0 spurt, taking the score to 38 – 29 before the first half ended at 43 – 35.
Philadelphia came out all guns blazing after the interval. They attacked with more gusto and slowly clawed off the deficit, an 8 – 0 run even putting them ahead at 50 – 48. The Knicks came back though and finished the third segment ahead at 59 – 58.
New York had an 8 – 0 spurt in the final quarter that put them up 71 – 63. The Sixers soon closed the gap down again though, 73 – 71. However they could never go up and the Knicks held their nerves in the clutch, nailing important free throws to walk away with the 82 – 79 win.
