Amar’e Stoudemire puts New York Knicks team practice session on hold: NBA Update
The mercurial power forward of the New York Knicks, Amar’e Stoudemire, who was looking to gather his entire team in order to practice together during the lockout has put the plan on hold due to the poor progress in the talks over
the new Collective Bargaining Agreement or CBA.
The first meeting between the league and the players union ended up on a very bad note. The meeting took place one month after the lockout was imposed on the players and it finished with NBA filing law suits against the players
in the court of law.
Prior to the lockout National Basketball Association Commissioner David Stern reiterated on number of occasions that NBA wouldn’t end up in the court like in the case of National Football League and termed it as the worst case
scenario. However, things got so bad in the first meeting after the implementation of the lockout that both sides accused each other for the situation and filed cases.
Stoudemire being the ultimate leader in the New York Knicks squad had decided to arrange the Knicks team workout in Florida at the IMG Academies, since the players are not allowed to use the team facilities during the lockout.
Besides, Stoudemire numerous players across the league had also planned to carry out such team practice sessions in order to maintain the team chemistry.
The seven foot power forward was an inspiration for the Knicks throughout the last season. His arrival at Madison Square Garden marked the first time in nearly seven years that the Knicks made it to the playoffs. They put up a
valiant effort against the Boston Celtics in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs, but with Stoudemire injured, they just fell short of toppling the C’s in all four games of the series.
The move to set up a camp for the Knicks was a manifestation of Stoudemire’s desire to hit the ground running in the next season, but now with the talks on the new CBA going on at a snail’s pace, it has been reported that Stoudemire
has planned to delay the training sessions till late October. This move does make a lot of sense. The NBA owners and the players union seem nowhere near an agreement and if the season is not starting anytime soon, there is no use to keep the players physically
ready.
