Amar'e Stoudemire showing his frustrations with his new team
Amar’e Stoudemire is beginning to show his frustrations with his new squad as his New York Knicks (3-7) dropped their fifth-straight game 104-96 to the Houston Rockets on Sunday 14 November
at Madison Square Garden in New York City. After the game, the five-time NBA All-Star had some harsh words for his team-mates.
"It's definitely something that I'm not accustomed to. It's not fun," Stoudemire told reporters after his team's loss to the Rockets. "We're a young team and we make mistakes but we can't
keep doing the exact same thing every night. We just gotta find a way to grow up."
After playing his first nine seasons with two-time MVP Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns, Stoudemire signed a five-year deal worth $99.7 million with the Knicks this past July. The power
forward came over from a solid Suns team, who have made the play-offs in six of the past eight seasons, to a Knicks squad that has struggled recently, qualifying for the post-season only once in the past nine years. Stoudemire seems to be fully aware of the
differences between the two teams.
"I don't understand why we're not playing with the urgency. I'm not used to that," he said. "We're not playing like we're on a four-game losing streak, now five. We don't have that sense
of urgency. It's almost as if it doesn't matter and it's not something I'm used to."
Even though the Knicks have struggled so far, Stoudemire has himself to blame as well, with his own productivity taking a hit this season. While his averages for points, rebounds, and
blocks are pretty much consistent with his career averages, he’s been far less efficient from the field. Through 10 games, Stoudemire is making 46 per cent of his shots, down from 54 per cent for his career. He is also leading the Knicks in turnovers per game
with 4.1 per contest.
