Amar’e Stoudemire to miss game 3 of New York Knicks vs. Miami Heat with injured hand – NBA Update
The New York Knicks are down by 2 in their first round Eastern Conference playoffs matchup with the Miami Heat and really need a win in the next game to find a way back into the series. However, their chances in game 3 have already taken a hit as it was
confirmed Tuesday that star power forward Amar’e Stoudemire will miss the clash.
The Knicks forward injured his hand after the game-2 and the club have now confirmed that the player will not take part in the 3rd game of a best of seven series.
The injury was a self inflicted one. Just after the game ended in Miami, Stoudemire, on his way to the locker room, punched a glass containing a fire extinguisher, breaking it and severely injuring his hand in the process.
According to eyewitness accounts, Stoudemire lost a lot of blood after the incident and his hand appeared severely injured. Towels were reportedly used to stem the flow of blood while medics from both the Knicks and the Heat tended to the player.
"He didn't haul off and punch the glass; he hit it out of frustration," ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard was told. "He kind of slapped it, but with a closed fist. He said he thought it was plastic instead of glass.”
"Half of his hand was just hanging off. It was really bad. Blood was just squirting out. That's why they had the paramedics come in, because they thought he might have punctured an artery because of how much blood was coming out."
The injury leaves the Knicks shorthanded in a series where they are already under pressure and playing without star point guard Jeremy Lin, who is out with an injured knee. Stoudemire also suffered an injury during last season’s playoffs when the Knicks
faced off against the Boston Celtics. The Knicks went on to lose that series.
His most recent self inflicted injury has left the team in a precarious position and placed the burden squarely on the shoulders of Carmelo Anthony. Stoudemire put up a statement on his verified twitter account to address the situation, apologizing for the
act.
"I am so mad at myself right now, I want to apologize to the fans and my team, not proud of my actions. headed home for a new start."
