Amateur's Hour at Augusta, Randal Lewis will show debut performance
Amateur Randal Lewis was selected for the 2012 Masters for the first time, he will play his debut tournament from April 5 to 8.
In 2011, he received the year’s best gift from the Masters officials. It was Christmas, when Lewis and his wife Melanie opened the invitation card for the first major of the year.
Their excitement was heightened manifold and the Christmas happiness was doubled. The 54-year-old financial adviser from Alma, Mich., and an amateur golfer is now heading to the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
“There were definitely times when I wondered if I would ever get that close again,” Lewis said. “Sometimes, you think: Maybe it won’t ever happen. Maybe that was my chance”.
He was astonished after opening the invitational mail and later expressed extreme happiness about being selected for the first major of his life.
This was a result of winning the title of the U.S. Mid-Amateur, played in September 2011. "I've been thinking about it every day for six months," he said "I'm ready. It's definitely time".
Ryo Ishikawa also received an exceptional invitation from the officials. His ranking is also below fifties and he has not won since long time either.
Selection of the Japanese rising star in the field of the Masters is appreciable. He also has high aims for the upcoming mega event and is confident to display an amazing game.
On the other hand, Ernie Els, a three-time major champion, will not play the Masters. He is also ranked below fifties and has also not won in 2011 and 2012.
Without winning a tournament, none of the low ranked players can make it to the Masters. Similarly, Retief Goosen and Davis Love III are also on a lay-off period, for not receiving an invitation.
The hottest contenders of the title include Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Hunter Mahan, Steve Stricker and the world famous, Tiger Woods.
If Lewis is aiming to record some massive scores on the leaderboard, then he has to face and compete against the world leading professionals in a better way.
Without giving extra attention and performance, no amateur can reach the top leaderboard positions. Hence, fine skills are required from Lewis to outclass the impressive players in the field.
