Amateur Lydia Ko says she is glad after playing at US Women's Open 2012
Kiwi Lydia Ko, who performed well at the third major tournament of the current season, the US Women’s Open 2012, is happy to find an opportunity to play at one of the most prestigious tournaments of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour.
Ko, an amateur from New Zealand, has been making a name for herself in the world of golf and appears determined to move ahead by recording victories in professional tournaments.
Despite being among the least favourite contenders for the major battle at Kohler, Ko did better than most of her fans had expected. She displayed a balanced performance and made perfect strokes on most of the holes.
She posted a 74 in the opening round on Thursday, and stunned the spectators when she registered an equal-par 72 in the second round.
Analysts said Ko is young, but she has the courage and passion to keep moving ahead. They said that she has proved her mettle in amateur circuit — something important for players to polish their skills.
Analysts also pointed out that Ko played much better than most of the big names did. Current world number one Yani Tseng, who was expected to play a better game in the major event, faltered in all the four rounds and ended up finishing tied for the 50th position on the leaderboard.
Speaking to the media about how she felt after playing at Kohler, the Kiwi star said that she is pretty glad that she found an opportunity to show her skills among battle-hardened LPGA contenders.
Ko said that she learned a lot by playing at the US Women’s Open 2012, and looks forward to coming here again. She pointed out that playing at big events like majors requires more than just being a good player.
The Kiwi prodigy said, at major tournaments, it becomes important for players to handle stress while facing top-ranked rivals.
“I think, you know, like playing different kind of shots, and managing like stress and coping with stress. I think it's in probably pretty good condition out here and it's hard to get these every single round you play. Yeah, and also just the experience playing with a purse,” Ko shared.
