Amateur Patrick Cantlay aiming a victory at the Masters
Patrick Cantlay is in the field of the Masters Tournament, scheduled to start from April 5 to 8, 2012, desiring to win the title.
The 20-year-old American amateur golfer has high expectations from the first major of the year, which is being staged at the amazing site of the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
“It’s really special waking up in the morning and seeing the place empty,” Cantlay said. “Golf is golf, no matter where you’re playing, Long Beach City Amateur or the Masters. It’s still get the ball in the hole as fast as you can”.
Last year, he played four tournaments on the Professional Golf Association and one major event.
His performance was the best, as he amazed the officials and spectators by making impressive strokes.
In 2011, he finished tied for the 21st position at the US Open, T24 at Travelers Championship, T20 at the AT&T National and recorded his best at the RBC Canadian Open, where he tied for the ninth position amazingly.
“The U.S. Open week, for me, was the biggest (accomplishment of 2011) for sure,” Cantlay said. “It was my first major – my first tour event – and my whole family was there”.
The year 2011 was the most successful season for the American amateur. With amazing finishes, he also earned Jack Nicklaus Award, Pac-10 Conference Player of the Year, Haskins Award and Mark H. McCormack Medal.
According to Cantlay, he has been planning to be in the Master Tournament field since 2011.
However, he has not played many events this year and has only displayed his form at the Northern Trust Open in February.
He missed the cut there and after that, spent most of his time practising. He is pretty sure about his performance and confident to win the title.
“I’m hitting it really well and stroking it really well, too. My game feels really good right now,” Cantlay said.
“I do feel like I can win this week. I feel like any tournament I tee it up in, if I play well, I have a chance to win”.
There are also many other professional players heading to Augusta. Cantlay will be facing tough rivals on the golf course and only extra efforts can take him to the leading position.
