Question:

Amateur interior house painting help needed?

I gathered all of my supplies from several years ago to prepare for a new bedroom painting project. I found 2 gallons of interior primer. One has a date of 05/05. How long is primer good for? It's been in cool stroage area in the basement since that time. Can I still use it, or do I need to get new primer? The paint will be new. Appreciate honest advice.

  1. wld not use 3 yr old primer or paint.  hve used it in the past and did not dry good, or cover like i know it can.

  2. It does tend to go "iffy" after a while, but I would try it somewhere 1st, just on a big piece of cardboard, or maybe a spot inside your shed or garage, if it seems ok and dries ok, then try a top coat over it too, just to be 100% sure, the last thing you need is a room you need to strip back and redo. You never know, so try it before you throw it out.
