  1. If you are an amateur and try to play in a professional tournament there is a waiver which you sign saying you are playing as an amateur and will not accept prize money. If you don't sign you are "declaring" your self a pro. Even if you don't win any money you can loose your amateur status. Your amateur status is important if you play in state or national tournaments. If you are interested in becoming a PGA pro you may do so through their programs. It's not easy. Lots of book work and interships. Check out the PGA section in your area.

    Good luck.

  2. Your the person who chooses when to turn pro. You could win a 100 tournaments and still be an amateur if you wanted, but after you've won a tournament, people usually turn pro, as they're most likely going to start raking in the money.

  3. if u recive and money from playing or teaching u lose ur amatuer status usually u have to declare that ur an amautuer b4 a tourny and there fore cant win any moneys

bobby jones was the greatest amatuer golfer he won the true grand slam (us amatuer, british amatuer, us open, british open)

and did it in times when it took 6 weeks to get from britian to us.

  4. You can be a professional at any time.  Winning tournaments or money doesn't make you a professional only accepting it does.  Bobby Jones played on the PGA tour for years and won several Opens all as an amateur.

  5. No, you have to declare yourself a pro.  A pro-golfer is just someone who makes money playing golf.  An amateur can't make money playing golf.  So, the second an amateur recieves a dime for playing golf is the second they become pro.
