The attacker was talking to the press after breaking his goal drought of over a year. Amauri’s goal enabled his club to secure a highly unlikely victory over the reigning
Italian champions, AC Milan.

that he has never regretted opting for Italy in place of his country of birth.

The former Palermo striker went on to state that he had no regrets whatsoever, and stated:
“I have never regretted having chosen to play for Italy. In fact, now that the affair is closed once and for all I can tell you the truth - I refused to play for Brazil.”
He mentioned that when the Brazilian national team coach came knocking at his door and offered him a place in the Brazilian set up, he sought help from the then sporting
director at Juventus. He stated that he was waiting to be called by the Italian national coach. He recalled the situation and remarked:
“When Dunga called me to replace the injured Luis Fabiano, I said to Alessio Secco, then sporting director at Juventus, I did not want to go because I would wait for the
call from Italy. Juventus covered for me and took responsibility for everything.”
He further went on to state that wearing the Nazionale shirt was better than winning the Scudetto in his opinion, and he was overjoyed when called by Prandelli to don the
Azzurri colours. He further went on to state:
“Then, when Prandelli called me it was one of the proudest moments of my life - for me to wear the Azzurri shirt is better than to win a Scudetto.”
