Amazing moments of 2012 Major League Baseball season – Part 3
At the end of most Major League Baseball regular seasons, there is the usual debate amongst the fans and critics alike regarding the fact if the batters dominated the pitchers and vice versa. This year was a mix of both as we got the chance to see some tremendous
hitting and accurate pitching.
While most fans love watching the ball fly over the fence for massive home-runs, there are others that enjoy the complexities of the pitchers trying to beat the batters on the plate. Tricking the batter into swinging is an art. Only the top pitchers survive
at the Major League level. One slight mistake and the ball will go for a home-run.
The 2012 MLB regular season saw many brilliant performances, below is a continuation from Part 2 of our list.
Return of the knuckleball:
New York Mets’ R.A. Dickey showed many of us the devastating outcome of his brilliant knuckleball pitching. His performances on the mound this year were magical. During a game against the Baltimore Orioles, he managed to strike-out a whopping 13 batters.
You would think with a pitcher like Dickey the New York Mets must have dominated. However, that was not the case as the rest of the team just seemed to limp throughout the 2012 regular season. The funny part was the fact that Dickey managed to get selected
for the All-Star Game but unfortunately the Mets just languished in the regular season.
Dickey showed the fans that the knuckleball definitely has a place in Major League Baseball and it is something to be respected as many of the top hitters in the league were baffled by his complexity and accuracy. All of the issues that plagued the Mets
during the beginning of the 2012 MLB regular season, Dickey really gave the team something to smile about. Night after night he gave everything he had on the mound. Too bad he just didn’t get the support he needed from the rest of team to improve not only
his numbers but the club as a whole.
The fans will hope that Dickey is surrounded with some better players next year and the team can really benefit from this tremendous pitcher.
A perfect game by Matt Cain:
When you talk about some of the powerhouse teams in Major League Baseball, the San Francisco Giants are definitely on that list. They are a tremendously talented team capable of taking on the best. What was interesting during the 2012 MLB regular season
was the fact that the Matt Cain became the first pitcher to throw a perfect for the Giants. Cain did an amazing job on the mound for the Giants and made history doing it. It is funny that with all of the accolades that the Giants have amassed over their many
successful years, Cain was the first pitcher to throw a perfect game for the team.
What most people tend to forget is that a pitcher requires a tremendous amount of defensive support when they are on the mound. This is especially the case when the pitcher has a perfect game. So in essence, not only is the pitcher to be honoured but the
team as a whole can definitely feel proud with their efforts as they managed to support their thrower.
