Amazing moments of 2012 Major League Baseball season – Part 5
Now that the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season is over, I have compiled some of the amazing moments of the season.
The last thing many fans want to see is a favourite player getting traded. Some players have been around certain teams for a long time. They become regular household names when you talk about a particular team.
However, as with most MLB regular seasons, there are bound to be some ups and downs with a mix of high flying performances. Let’s not forget the occasional trade or unfortunate injuries that can sometimes plague a team.
Below is the continuation from Part 4 of amazing moments from the 2012 MLB regular season.
Boston Red Sox Kevin Youkilis traded:
Having been with Boston Red Sox for such a long time, Kevin Youkilis found himself being traded to the Chicago White Sox this year. Youkilis is a three time All-Star as he is a tremendously talented player. He was with Boston in 2004 and 2007 when the team
won the World Series title. Youkilis had been through thick and thin with the Boston Red Sox, seeing him go was an emotional experience for the fans and player alike.
Ivan Rodriguez retires:
Texas Rangers’ veteran catcher Ivan Rodriguez finally decided to call it a day and resigned from baseball. He is an amazing player that has a Major League record of catching in close to 2,500 games. Rodriguez had a brilliant career and a tremendous record
with the Texas Rangers. His contribution to the team is immeasurable and seeing him resign seemed to mark the end of an era for some of the veteran players in the league.
Mega trade between Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers:
In a move that surprised many in baseball, the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers went through with a mega trade that saw some big players moving. Boston’s Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett, Adrian Gonzalez and Nick Punto were sent to the Dodgers as Ivan Dejesus
Jr., James Loney, Jerry Sands, Rubby De La Rosa and prospect Allen Webster were going to Boston. It looked as if the Dodgers were looking to boost their postseason chances bringing on such an expensive line-up. Some critics did not agree with the trade as
the cost during the tail end of the regular season was just too high. However, others disagreed as they felt it was a good move by the Dodgers to acquire some of the most dynamic players from the Red Sox.
What was evident was the fact that Boston is looking like they want to build their team from the ground up and unloading some their most expensive players seemed to relieve some in the management. Now it looks like the Red Sox will acquire some decent talent
during the offseason as the look to rebuild their squad.
The Dodgers did not make it to the playoffs this year and in retrospect it would look like their late season mega trade deal might now have been such a good move after all. However, such stars like Crawford and Gonzalez will definitely help the team next
year and maybe this move was done by Los Angeles to fortify their dominance for next year. It will be interesting to see the long term outcome of such an expensive deal as the fans will be hoping next year that it was worth it.
