Amazing turn of foot from Up In Time presented her with a win in the Harold Ramser Stakes at Santa Anita
The 3-year-old filly, Up in Time is unstoppable this season and she keeps on piling the wins as she did it again when at Santa Anita Park on 16 October, 2011, when she left Celestial Kitten wondering in the final furlong to won the Grade 3 Harold C. Ramser
Sr. Stakes.
The Simon Callaghan trained filly landed her second graded stakes win this year, and she did under the veteran jockey Martin Garcia who timed the run brilliantly to win over the ever so threatening Celestial Kitten by 1 ¼ lengths.
It was a good performance by the Great Britain bred filly that was tallied at 5 to 1 odds, covered the distance of a mile in 1 minute and 34.25 seconds over a firm Santa Anita turf ground.
Pace setting Tales in Excess jumped to the front and her long strides helped her lead Imperialistic Diva and Celestial Kitten, while setting sharp fractions of 23.06 seconds for the opening quarter mile.
Tales in Excess romped furiously to cover the half mile distance in 46.77 seconds, and the six furlong distance in 1 minute and 10.75 seconds.
The Grade 2 Honeymoon Handicap winner, Sarah’s Secret returned to action after a break of nearly three months, and was sent off as the 9 to 5 favourite, but never quite got going in the race.
Under jockey Mike Smith, Sarah’s Secret never reached her top gear which allowed Up In Time to chase down Sarah’s Secret with a quick pace on the outside into third swing from the turn entering the stretch.
Patrick Valenzuela’s Celestial Kitten showed impressive pace entering the stretch and in no time assumed the leaders’ position as the pace setter weakened, and allowed Celestial Kitten to head for the wire.
Up in Time wasn’t going to sit back, as she came surging past her second placed rival to challenge Celestial Kitten, who battled gamely when challenged on the outside by Up In Time.
The winner clinched the lead passed the eighth pole and started drawing away after urging from Martin Garcia, Up In Time was able to finish ahead of Celestial Kitten.
