Amazombie and Acclamation’s performance anxiously awaited at the Del Mar meet
With the Del Mar meet in California due to begin on 18th July, 2012, trainers, jockeys and owners seem to be getting more excited. The event is anxiously awaited by the enthusiasts, who are eager to see who will excel on the
poly-track this year.
The track remains challenging and is dependent on the weather, and it will truly test the stamina and ability of the runners who will be competing on this track.
Rider Rafael Bejarano is equally ecstatic about the Del Mar meet as he said: “It’s one of the best meets of the year.” The jockey spoke of the diversity of the tracks in California and said:
“All the racetracks in California are kind of different,” Bejarano further added. “Hollywood Park, Santa Anita and Del Mar – they’re all different.”
Acclamation, Include Me Out, and Amazombie are some of the runners who are creating a buzz.
The Donald Warren trained, Acclamation, will be taking on the Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes on 21st July, 2012. With six consecutive victories, he will be aiming for his seventh one. He has been doing well in his work-outs and,
he will be ready to take it to the next level in this race.
Trained by William Spawr, the six-year-old Amazombie will be competing in the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar on 29th July, 2012, over a distance of six furlongs.
This season, the California-bred runner raced in three starts and managed two placed finishes and a victory in all three.
The son of Northern Afleet, out of mare Wilshe Amaze, has notched some brilliant victories including the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Churchill Downs on 5th November, 2011, where he briskly covered six furlong distance in
1 minute and 09.17 seconds.
Prior experience over similar distance will definitely work in his favour but, adjusting to the synthetic surface after racing on a dirt-track might be tough for the gelding.
Trainer John Sadler has entered American Oaks winner, Lady Of Shamrock, into the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks which will take place on 18th August, 2012 while Switch, winner of the Grade 2 A Gleam Handicap might run in the Grade 3 Rancho
Bernardo on 19th August, 2012.
