Which has more dander Amazon's or African Grey's? I'm looking in to getting an African Grey but I was told that Grey's have a lot of dander that can cause respiratory problems, I recently deveopled asthma when I moved to another state. Anyways which would be more suitable for a person that has asthma, as far as dander goes? Also is there anything that can be done to reduce bird dander? Any other information is greatly appreciated.

***Note: I ready own a Conure and a Senegal, if this helps***

Thanks for you time.

  1. I have a Grey and there is a lot of dander. But I put a air purifier in room and it really helps. To reduce the dander they should bathe often or use a spray bottle and mist often. I also have asthma and do ok. I do believe a Grey has more dander than a Amazon. Not 100% on it but do think so. I know Cockatoo is the worst. Good luck in whatever bird you get they are so great:)

  2. A Grey has more dander, almost as bad as a Too. But an Air purifier does keep things in check for me. I have 4 pet Grey's and 3 pairs of breeders, plus babies.  There are also problems with the Amazons. The babies are cute enough, but at about age 4 to 7 unless you are really up on training you might run into aggression problems. We have an equal number of Zon's as well. If I were looking for a Zon, I would shop for an older bird maybe a rescue. A bird that you can tell what it is going to be like. A Grey is best if bought as a baby..
