"Amazon trees store an amount of carbon equal to 15 years of the carbon dioxide emitted by human activities today"

I can't quite follow this sentence and what it is trying to say about global warming. Can someone comprehend it for me. thanks

  1. all plants and trees  absorb carbon ,and leave us oxygen ,when it rots it produces carbon ,and normally water when cold or other living plant life absorbs that ,but with so much deforestation and so much exstra carbon production from civilized man the natural balance is disturbed and under pressure
