Ambassador Golf Club to host the Canadian Tour Championship – Golf news
The Canadian Tour Championship 2011 will take place at Windsor’s Ambassador Golf Club from 25 to 28 August, 2011, the tour officials confirmed on Friday.
Canadian Tour Commissioner Rick Janes disclosed the news on the official website. He said, “The Canadian Tour Championship has been played over outstanding golf courses and hosted by many fantastic volunteers. We have been very privileged and there is every
indication that Windsor and the Ambassador Golf Club will host another great event.”
Earlier, the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club had been playing the role of the host since 2009, but this year the officials decided to blend in a variety of challenges and hence changed the venue.
According to the Tour officials, Ambassador Golf Club fulfilled the criteria laid by the Tour and hence was chosen for its eminent reputation and challenging design. The 7,033-yard course was designed by Thomas McBroom and was nominated as one of the best
courses of Canada in 2005. Apart from fulfilling the standards set by the United States Golf Association, the venue is known for its picturesque scenery.
The Tour Championship is one of the flagship events of the Canadian Tour and has $300,000 on stake. It plays a huge role in shaping the final standings on the Tour and helps in getting exemptions into the second stage of PGA Qualifying School.
Ambassador General Manager Dave Cours expressed immense gratitude over the decision taken by the Tour.
He said, “The Ambassador Club, along with our owners, the Coco Group of Companies, is very proud and honoured to host the 2011 Canadian Tour Championship. We look forward to welcoming the Tour and all of the players to Windsor and the Ambassador for a fun
and exciting week of world-class golf.”
Apart from acknowledging the honours, Cours announced the appearance of the last years’ winner in the upcoming event. He said that James Love who triumphed at the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club in 2009 would be teeing off at the Ambassador.
