    Yes, she was.  She was also an amazing woman outside if aviation . . . I believe she even had her own line of very fashionable clothing, among other things.

    As aviophage suggested, why not put a little effort into researching this yourself?

  5. She was a pilot yes but some might say she was less a pilot than she was a publicity seeking stunt flier.  She became the first woman to fly the Atlantic as a passenger and later flew it solo to become a kind of female Lucky Lindy. She became a household name.

    She disappeared and it presumed she perished along with her navigator while on her around the world flight attempt.  Some have said she was lax about learning how to use and utilize some of her more advance equipment and on her fatal last flight she relied upon her navigator to learn how to use it.
