Amelia Gould captures Women’s 200m freestyle gold – Australian Youth Olympic Festival
Amelia Gould  of Australia Green captured gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on opening day of the 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival at Berkeley Aquatic Club, on Thursday, January 17, 2013.
The 17-year-old Gould devastated hopes of her opponents in the four-lap freestyle discipline and proved her mettle for the title. With her relentless efforts in the start, she remained comfortably ahead of her opponents and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal.
She stayed in a significant lead over her closest competitor and surfaced on the finishing end for gold medal by producing an effort of 1 minute and 59.79 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Tsuzumi Hasegawa of Japan, who was two and a half body lengths apart and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 02.07 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Chihiro Igarashi of Japan, who was only 0.30 seconds behind and tapped the wall for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 02.37 seconds.
Fourth fastest position of the race was obtained by Lili Margitai of Canada, who was only 0.30 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 02.67 seconds.
Margitai was trailed by Sara Joo of Hungary, who was nearly 0.40 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing end for fifth position by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 03.11 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was obtained by Sophie Taylor of Australia Green, who was 0.22 seconds slower and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 03.32 seconds.
Subsequently, Taylor remained half a body length ahead of Jemma Schlicht of Australia, who tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 03.81 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was secured by Chelsea Gillett of Australia Gold, who was 2.08 seconds slower and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 05.89 seconds.
Furthermore, Gould was extremely delighted with her top finish in the race and collected medals at the victory ceremony of the race after the event.
