Amelia Maughan consults Francesca Halsall and Joanne Jackson to improve her skills – Swimming News
Great Britain’s junior swimmer, Amelia Maughan, is taking help from Britain’s Francesca Halsall and Jo Jackson, as she is heading towards the most important event of the year, the 2011 Belgrade European Junior Swimming, this July.
The teenager was selected in Britain’s squad of 27 swimmers, chosen to represent their country at the upcoming European Junior Championships. The 15-year-old Maughan will also compete at the 2011 Peru World Youth Championships, during August.
The British swimmer attended a national training camp with her great seniors, Halsall and Jackson. Halsall has earned 19 international medals, where her biggest achievement was the silver medal in the 100m freestyle at the 2009 Rome World Championships.
Similarly, Jackson collected 16 accolades during her international swimming career, where the bronze medal in the 400m freestyle at the 2008 Beijing Olympics was her biggest accomplishment.
The junior swimmer was very excited to train under the shadows of these two great swimmers.
Maughan said, “I found the camp really exciting. It was great and lots of people were really nice to me and I just had a lot of help with my swimming.”
Expressing her views after returning from the training camp, she said, “I do talk to the senior freestyle swimmers like Fran Halsall and Jo Jackson and the other girls and they were really helpful too. And I was helped along by the technical turning coaches
who were in Cyprus and also swimming under different coaches has helped me quite a lot.”
Amelia added that she has acquired much confidence from her seniors and now she believes that she will have an incredible year.
She demonstrated a sluggish swim at the 2011 British Gas National Swimming Championships but intends to perform better at the upcoming British National Championships in Sheffield, this June.
The 15-year-old will be representing her country in the events of 100m freestyle and the 200m freestyle at the European Junior titles. In addition, Amelia claims to be prepared for the upcoming challenges, saying that she will put all her efforts in the
training session and perform well in the event.
